The Self-Proclaimed Arbitrators of Humanity

The legal geniuses at the Saint Louis Post Dispatch Editorial Board have recently graced us with their legal analysis of the 14th amendment saying, it “specifically excludes the unborn from having rights” Because the 14th amendment speaks to people born in the US as having natural citizenship – the post makes the leap that you must be born to have any rights at all. But they conveniently leave out their analysis on what it means when it says, “nor shall any state deprive any person of life” Did you know that a murderer who kills a pregnant woman can and usually is charged with killing the woman and her unborn baby? If the unborn baby doesn’t have any rights, why does the unborn baby deserve justice? The question isn’t whether the unborn have rights – the question is whether you think the unborn are human. If we learned anything from the 1900s it should be this, authoritarians will always wordsmith their way to deciding who lives and dies based on how human they are.
